Booster Gold created by Dan Jurgens (Don't blame the writers!)
Our cover shows time-traveling hero Booster Gold getting drunk with DC's most famous cowboy, Jonah Hex. It is a pretty fun image, but is it too fun? Booster Gold became pretty serious during 52, but now he's firmly planted himself in the world of straight-up goofiness. Of course, Booster's creator, Jurgens, drew this cover, so one can only assume this is the direction he wanted to take his character.
This series mainly focuses on Booster Gold traveling through time to stop a time-traveling super villain named Supernova from altering the timeline. It's a nice setup that allows readers to pay a visit to a lot of different eras of DC Comics history. And, as this cover shows, this issue focuses on Jonah Hex and the Wild West. But before Booster Gold gets there, he passes by a fleeting image of the early days of Young Justice.
The artists really messed up Secret, and got quite lazy with coloring Superboy, but I'm still thrilled that somebody showed they still remembered Young Justice in 2007. After his adventure with Jonah Hex, Booster Gold crashes his time sphere into the back of the Cosmic Treadmill, just as Barry Allen and a young Wally West were embarking on a time-traveling adventure of their own. Wally exclaims, "Who the hell are those guys?" And Barry chastises his young ward for using inappropriate language, to which Wally immediately apologizes.
Booster Gold's next issue will be all about Barry and Wally, but Bart wasn't involved, so we won't review it here. Next time, we'll do another blisteringly quick cameo in Countdown #28.
